Stupid Daily....

Have I ever mentioned that everything wrong in the universe can be directly linked back to the Daily? Because it can. Just letting you know.

For example, last week, I realized that despite my horrible disdain for that newspaper, I could make money for my homework if I kept working for it. So Wednesday, sadly enough, I sold my soul and returned to that dreaded newsroom. I was immediately given a story (what pushovers!) about a scam faux Washington Mutual email floating about. My editor wanted it that afternoon.

So anyway she forwarded my the e-mail and I began my research. In the name of good journalism I decided to click on the link provided to see what came up. Probably not so smart.

No I take that back.

Definitely not too smart.

Anyway, it wasn't too exciting, and since I didn't give out any info, I figured I was safe. (I was perfectly sober when I did this, but I would like to blame alcohol, because, as we know, alcohol is the cause of - and solution to - all of life's problems.) (I did change my password and username on my laptop in my defense.)

Anyway, I wrote up a fine article and submitted it to the Daily. They proceeded to, in the editing process, add in two typos. Did I mention I don't like the Daily?

I also turned it in for homework.

So fast-forward to this morning. I decided I better check my checking account balance because last night's dinner may have put me over the top. I type in my username and password and it doesn't work. Oh crap. I try again. No luck. 2 times later and Washington Mutual has locked out my account.

At this point I think I had a stroke as the number 1050 flashed before my eyes.

And then I went to work.

So I got out of work early (oh work... now there is another story...) and immediately proceeded to call up WAMU. They sent me a temporary password but it didn't work. So I called them up again. Their attempts to fix it still didn't work. So I called them up again. Got transferred someplace else. Finally got a hold of someone who actually knew what was going on.

Apparently my username got randomly deleted, probably when I changed passwords. So I created a new account and nothing was stolen. Somehow my stupidity didn't hurt me. But I would like to take a moment to blame the Daily, for giving me an assignment that jeopardized my security. They should know that journalists are too curious for their own good...

Plus they're all a bunch of pushovers anyway...
